A 5G-enabled robot is delivering meals to residents of Guang'an Yangyiyuan, a senior nursing home in Ningbo's Haishu district.

The robot, which has a battery life of eight hours and is capable of returning to charge automatically, is part of the city's first senior nursing home powered by 5G networks.

Lin Ping, a worker at the nursing home, said that the robot has freed them from daily delivery of food and groceries, allowing them to allocate the saved time to other duties.

In addition to the robot, a 5G-powered management system that can dynamically monitor the health status of residents and send alerts when emergencies occur has also been put into place.

The facial recognition system installed on the front gate can prevent residents with dementia from getting lost and also prevents outsiders from entering the nursing home.

Zhou Ningkai, manager of the Haishu branch of China Mobile, revealed that in the future, services supported by 5G like smart health analysis will be offered to better serve the senior residents.
