Ningbo subway line 5 to begin operations

The first phase of subway line 5 in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province will begin operations from 10:00 am on Dec 28, according to Ningbo Rail Transit Group.

The 27.9-kilometer subway line, which consists of 22 stations and has a maximum speed of 80km/h, starts from Buzheng village and ends at Xingzhuang Road.

The line is an important part of the rail transit network as it offers the most transfers to other lines in Ningbo. Its opening will bring the total length of operational metro lines in the city to 183 kilometers.

The line will run from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with trains arriving at intervals of between 4 minutes and 58 seconds to 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

The fare varies based on the distance and is capped at 10 yuan ($1.53) for a single trip.

Shanguantang Station is where passengers can transfer to subway line 2, but the transfer within the station will be temporarily unavailable.

The first fully automated train in Zhejiang, which was manufactured by Ningbo Rail Transit Group and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co Ltd, will put to use on the subway line.
