Yu Hongyi, deputy to the 13th National People's Congress, has called for more support to turn Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province into a national demonstration zone for green manufacturing.

Yu, who is also a former director of the Standing Committee of the Ningbo Municipal People's Congress, made the remarks in her legislative proposal which was presented at the annual session of the nation's top legislature on March 5.

Green manufacturing, also referred to as green production, is when manufacturing companies look to upgrade any outdated forms of production and opt for more environmental manufacturing solutions that reduce the amount of waste they produce.

Yu said that it is feasible to develop Ningbo into a national model in green manufacturing given its industrial development foundation, which has allowed it to become an advanced manufacturing hub.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, the city phased out 1,090 enterprises with backward production capacity and promoted the upgrading of more than 10,000 enterprises that generated pollution.

As of the end of 2021, Ningbo was home to 51 national green factories, six national green supply chains and three national green industrial parks.

In addition, 113 products from the city had been recognized as green design products.

To further promote green manufacturing, Yu suggested Ningbo be provided support to blaze new trails in fields including the compilation of green manufacturing standards, energy conservation and emission reduction.

Specifically, measures including exploring the establishment of an energy consumption monitoring mechanism and facilitating the application of digital techs should be carried out.
