Trucks loaded with 100,000 books departed from Ningbo's Jiangbei district for Yuexi county, Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Sichuan province on March 28.
The books were donated by Jiangbei residents over the past three months.
Earlier this year, the district launched a book donation campaign after learning that Yuexi does not have enough books to construct a county-level library.
The books were collected in a warehouse in Ningbo specially established for goods from Ningbo and Liangshan before they were sent to Yuexi.
The warehouses are estimated to shorten the logistics cycle between Ningbo and Liangshan by two to three days and slash overall logistics cots by over 35 percent.
Last April, Ningbo was paired with Liangshan under the east-west poverty relief program by the central government, which sees more prosperous provinces and municipalities in East China lend support to underdeveloped regions in the country. Ningbo has been assigned to support 11 counties including Yuexi in Liangshan.
Located in southwestern Sichuan province, Liangshan is the largest inhabited area of the Yi ethnic group in China.
