Xiangshan county in Ningbo will launch a series of activities to celebrate the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 and the opening of its annual fishing season on Sept 16.

The coastal county of Xiangshan is home to the Asian Games Sailing Center and Banbianshan Beach Volleyball Center, both venues for the Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou in September.

The Fishing Season Festival, held in September every year, marks the start of a new fishing season in Xiangshan after a four-and-a-half-month fishing moratorium.

During the event, thousands of fishing vessels set out from Shipu Port on the East China Sea after a traditional ceremony worshipping the sea goddess.

This year's Fishing Season Festival is slated to begin on Sept 16.

"Activities including a worship ceremony, sailing ceremony, fishery folk culture promotion and maritime forum will be held during the event," said Bao Chaoyang, Party secretary of Xiangshan county.

Bao said that the sailing competitions of the Hangzhou Asian Games will be held during this year's Fishing Season Festival.

According to Bao, Xiangshan will launch a series of activities related to the Asian Games to celebrate the games as well as promote the county's tourism industry. 

Xiangshan has launched a group of tourism products focusing on marine sports to build itself into a popular marine sports travel destination in the Yangtze River Delta region.
