A total of 317,000 digital yuan wallets had been opened in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province as of April 26.

People completed 97,200 transactions worth 20.09 million yuan ($3.09 million) via the wallets, which can now be used in more than 6,700 offline stores across the city, official statistics show.

The Banbian Mountain Tourism Resort in Ningbo's Xiangshan county, one of the competition venues for the upcoming Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, joined the digital renminbi, or e-CNY, trials in China on April 13.

People can now use the digital yuan wallet to pay transport fees as well as certain expenses at the resort, which will host the Games' beach volleyball events.

Payment scenarios related to the Asian Games will be rolled out soon.

The People's Bank of China, the nation's central bank, on April 2 released the list of new regions taking part in the e-CNY trials.

Among them are the six Chinese cities-Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Jinhua – that will be involved in the Asian Games this September.
