2 towns listed among top 100 Chinese towns

Two towns – Cicheng town and Guanhaiwai town – in Ningbo recently made the 2021 list of top 100 Chinese towns in terms of comprehensive competitiveness, according to a report.

Released by institutions including the think tank Competitiveness, the China Development and Reform Newspaper and the Beijing Sino-Singapore Urban Planning and Design Institute, the report evaluated towns (townships) across China from perspectives including economic scale, economic vitality and per capita income.

Jiangsu province topped the nation in the number of listed towns, which stood at 41. It was followed by Guangdong (30), Zhejiang (9), Shandong (9) and Fujian (4).

According to the report, the top 100 towns have an average of 232,200 residents, 1.86 billion yuan in general public budget revenue, 57.8 billion yuan in industrial output value and 3,056 industrial companies, including 281 above designated size.

Cicheng town in Ningbo's Jiangbei district was ranked 52nd on the list, while Guanhaiwei town in the county-level city of Cixi was placed 68th.

In 2021, Cicheng's GDP hit 13.4 billion yuan ($2.06 billion), and the town's added value of industrial enterprises above designated size and fiscal revenue amounted to 8.18 billion yuan and 3.14 billion yuan, up 37 percent and 17.7 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, the GDP of Guanhaiwei town was valued at 18.89 billion yuan, up 8.6 percent year-on-year. The total industrial output value reached 51.79 billion yuan, an increase of 25.2 percent, while investment in fixed assets amounted to 1.92 billion yuan, a yearly uptick of 25.2 percent.
