With the arrival of harvest season for Chinese Torreya nuts, residents of Huangtan town in Ninghai county, Ningbo are busy drying the fruit, which is their main source of income.

Huangtan town, which is located in the mountainous area, is home to the only production area of Chinese Torreya in Ningbo. Most residents of Huangtan grow Torreya for a living. Their annual income from the nuts ranges from 50,000 to 500,000 yuan ($68,732).

This year, the town's Torreya plantations have exceeded 1,000 hectares. The yields are expected to hit 1,035 metric tons, and the fruit will be processed into over 200,000 kilograms of dried nuts, which are thought to be valued at 74.52 million yuan, making up more than 70 percent of local incomes.
