Ningbo among least congested cities in China

Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province was ranked 35th among cities in China in terms of traffic congestion during rush hours in 2022, according to a report recently released by Baidu Maps.

Only 5.8 percent of residents from Ningbo had a one-way commuting time of more than one hour, while the proportion in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Chengdu, Wuhan and Nanjing all exceeded 10 percent.

Ningbo was also listed among the top Chinese cities in public transport operations. People in the city only need to walk an average of 791 meters to their destination after taking public transport, and nearly three-quarters of them can reach their destination within 1 kilometer, stated the report.

According to the data from the Ministry of Transport, 221.29 million passenger trips were made via electric buses in Ningbo in 2022, while 256.56 million were made via rail transport.

Authorities announced in February that residents from Ningbo can take subways for free after 8 pm every day.
