Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province recently unveiled an action plan to build itself into a global transportation hub.
According to the plan, the city has set the goal of raising the cargo and container throughput volume of Ningbo Zhoushan Port to 1.34 billion metric tons and 40 million TEUs respectively by 2027.
The number of international shipping routes the port operates by that time is expected to be over 260.
In addition, Ningbo will strive to increase its air transportation capacity. According to the plan, Ningbo Lishe International Airport will handle 18.5 million passengers and 200,000 tons of cargo annually and have flights bound for 30 international and 101 domestic destinations.
The city also aims to construct a railway network measuring 573 kilometers in length and increase the number of passenger trips made via bullet trains to 85 million by 2027.
Officials said the ultimate goal is for Ningbo to create a transportation pattern that allows people to travel from the city to Shanghai, any city in the Yangtze River Delta and other places in China within one hour, two hours and three hours respectively.
Efforts will also be made to facilitate urban-rural transportation integrated development and further promote green travel among people.
By 2027, the added value of the city's transportation industry is expected to account for more than 15 percent of its GDP, stated the plan.
