Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province was ranked sixth among cities nationwide in terms of per capita consumption in 2022, according to local statistic authorities.

The ranking for the city - whose per capita consumption rose by 6.2 percent year-on-year to 42,997 yuan ($6,281) in 2022 - was four slots higher than the previous year.

The cities ranked first to fifth were Hangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Xiamen, which had a per capita consumption of 46,440 yuan, 46,045 yuan, 44,793 yuan, 44,036 yuan and 43,970 yuan respectively.

In 2022, the per capita disposable income of Ningbo residents was 68,348 yuan, up 2.2 percent year-on-year after deducting price factors, meaning they spend 62.88 yuan for every 100 yuan earned.

The city's retail sales of social consumer goods expanded 5.3 percent - the second largest in the Yangtze River Delta, only behind Hangzhou - to 489.67 billion yuan, ranking 16th among cities with a GDP of at least 1 trillion yuan in China, two slots higher than the previous year.

Six of the nation's top 10 biggest spenders are located in the Yangtze River Delta, as two additional cities - Wenzhou and Wuxi – from the region made the top 10 list.

An integral part of the Yangtze River Delta, Zhejiang alone had three cities on the list: Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou.
