Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province staged a ceremony on April 20 to mark the start of a series of recruitment activities in celebration of the city's annual Talent Day, which falls on the same day.

In 2019, the city designated the first day of Grain Rain, a solar term in the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, as Talent Day. The move was aimed at attracting talents from around the world to work or start businesses in Ningbo.

Luminaries including Xue Qunji and Lu Bingheng, two academicians at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Shiyi and Cai Ronggen, two academicians at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhang Dongxiao, an academician at the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, attended the opening ceremony.

Tang Feifan, mayor of Ningbo, pointed out at the ceremony that Ningbo is now on the fast track of economic development and hence needs more talents to maintain the growth momentum.

The ceremony also saw the local government release policies aimed at bolstering the development of its Yongjiang Scientific Innovation Zone. The local government said it will hold job fairs in six cities including Zhoushan, Taizhou, Lishui, Bengbu and Liangshan, and introduce new high-profile professionals to the city as well.

More than 3.6 million people participated in the previous editions of Ningbo Talent Day through online and offline channels, according to an official at the Talent Office of the CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee.
