Beilun district in Ningbo, Zhejiang province released two guidelines on the construction of a child-friendly city in terms of off-campus playgrounds and hospitals on May 30.

The guideline on the construction of off-campus playgrounds is targeted at public spaces, including youth palaces, libraries, museums, and science and technology centers in Beilun.

The spaces are encouraged to extend their operating hours and lower prices for educational activities. In addition, green channels should be launched for families in need and facilities should be made more accessible for physically disabled children.

In the guideline on the construction of child-friendly hospitals, hospitals in Beilun are encouraged to introduce facilities such as breast milk storehouses, adoption centers for abandoned children, and ward schools.

Breast milk storehouses, which store donated breast milk, will be available for premature babies and newborns.

The adoption center will cooperate with departments such as public security authorities and welfare homes to offer caring and healthcare services for abandoned children and victims of domestic violence.

The ward schools will be built by hospitals and schools and offer educational courses for hospitalized children.

"The guidelines that set higher requirements for the construction of child-friendly facilities are useful and should be promoted in more areas," said Zong Lina, director of the business development department of the China National Children's Center.

In 2020, Beilun led the nation to make itself child-friendly. In 2022, Beilun launched two guidelines targeted at the construction of child-friendly communities and schools, respectively.
