Expats explore opera culture in Ningbo

To commemorate Bi Chunfang, a renowned Yueju Opera artist from Ningbo, Zhejiang province, a group of expats visited the Bi Chunfang Art Museum on July 13 to learn about Yueju Opera.

July 14 marked Bi's 96th birthday and the first anniversary of the opening of the museum. Expats from countries including the United States, India, South Korea, and Uzbekistan were invited to the museum in Yinzhou district to get a close look at the traditional Chinese opera.

After watching performances by Yueju Opera performers and local Yueju fans, they had a chance to put on opera makeup and learned opera gestures under the guidance of a teacher.

"I spent more than an hour in the makeup chair but it’s great fun to see a different me in the mirror," said Kuznetsova Svetlana, an Uzbek student at Ningbo University.
