WTA Tour makes historic debut in Ningbo with star-studded lineup

The signing ceremony for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Ningbo Open took place in Ningbo, Zhejiang province on July 26, marking the first time that the prestigious international tournament has been held in the city.
Scheduled to be held from Sept 25 to 30 at the Yinzhou Tennis Center, the 2023 WTA Ningbo Open will feature two categories: women's singles and women's doubles, with 32 main draw slots and 24 qualifying slots for singles, and 16 slots for doubles. The total prize money for the event was $250,000 and the singles champion will receive 280 ranking points.
To date, more than 100 professional players registered with the WTA have shown interest in participating in the tournament, and slots will be given based on players' WTA rankings. Among the confirmed participants is Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion who currently holds the 8th position.

Steve Simon, chairman and chief executive officer of the WTA, said in his video address that he is excited to see the event held in Ningbo. He also extended his gratitude on behalf of the WTA to everyone involved in making the event a reality.
