Accompanied by a team from Gulin Central Primary School in Haishu district, Ningbo, Hu Jinwei, a master kite-maker, set off on Aug 19 for Bulgaria to partake in a series of enriching kite culture exchanges.

Hu's first destination was Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. At the China Cultural Center in Sofia, he guided local children in the art of crafting long string kites, offering a hands-on experience that bridged cultures.

Continuing his journey, the Chinese artisan proceeded to a facility established by the China Cultural Center in Sofia in Targovishte, before heading to the next leg of the expedition – Varna. There, he participated in the kite festival, which attracted enthusiasts from across the globe to come together to soar kites alongside one another.

Reflecting on his immersive experience, Hu shared, "What struck me the most during my Bulgarian sojourn was the profound love and fervor that our foreign friends exhibited for Chinese culture. It reaffirmed the significance of cultural promotion and exchange in my eyes." He underscored his enduring commitment to introducing more individuals to the beauty of kite culture, expressing optimism for a future where more and more kite enthusiasts will join in this shared pursuit.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria and the 20th anniversary of the friendship city agreement between Ningbo and Varna, two cities from the respective countries.
