The 2035 Overall Plan for Ningbo Zhoushan Port was approved by the Ministry of Transport and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government on Oct 11, marking the completion of a three-year review and approval process that began in September 2021 and marking a major steps towards establishing a world-class port in the region.

The newly revised plan projects that Ningbo Zhoushan Port will handle an impressive 1.8 billion metric tons of cargo and 60 million containers by 2035.

Aligning with the vision of becoming a global maritime hub, the updated plan aims to transform the port into an international seaport specializing in container and bulk cargo transportation. It aspires to create a pivotal transshipment and storage hub for bulk commodities along the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River, bolstering the port's capacity to meet national strategic demands effectively.

The revised plan also fast-tracks the transition of port operations towards modern logistics services and bulk commodity trade, while also seeking to establish a maritime industrial cluster and a cutting-edge shipping service center along Zhejiang's coast.

Emphasizing sustainability and eco-friendly practices, the new plan prioritizes the enhancement of emergency response capabilities and aims to boost the proportion of clean cargo by 9 percent. It also champions green principles in design, construction, and operations, with a vision to transform the Hangzhou Bay Port Area into a beacon of ecological excellence.

Over the next two years, Ningbo Zhoushan Port is poised for significant development, with over 30 projects slated to kick off, including expansions at key facilities like the Fodu container terminal, the Daxie container terminal, the Meishan roll-on/roll-off terminal, and the Jintang new materials project terminal.
