During the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, agricultural modernization topped the agenda for the Republic of Malawi, an agricultural nation in southeast Africa. Eager to learn from China, Oliver Kingston Chimphambano, minister of the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in China, recently visited Tengtou village in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, to gain new insights.
Since the 1980s, Tengtou village in the city's Fenghua district has been experiencing rapid development. Over the course of 40 years, it has made huge strides in agricultural modernization. In 2000, Tengtou pioneered rural tourism by becoming the first village in China to charge an entry fee, transforming its picturesque landscapes into a thriving economy. In 2019, the village abolished entry fees, which further boosted tourist numbers. It now attracts over one million visitors annually.
