Based on a November 2024 survey, Ningbo's permanent population reached 9.77 million, an increase of 80,000 from the previous year. All of Ningbo's 10 districts experienced population growth, indicating the city's favorable environment for residents and businesses alike.

Yinzhou district saw the largest population increase with 21,000 new residents. In 2024, the district's gross domestic product reached 311.27 billion yuan ($42.98 billion), the highest of Ningbo's districts. With its dual focus on advanced manufacturing and modern services, Yinzhou has become a magnet for young graduates seeking employment.

Cixi, a county-level city of Ningbo, known for its home appliances and textiles, followed with 17,000 new residents. Beilun and Zhenhai districts added 10,000 residents each.

Cixi also remains the most densely populated area in Ningbo, with 1.88 million residents by the end of 2024. Yinzhou and Yuyao follow, with populations of 1.71 million and 1.26 million, respectively.

As Ningbo nears a population of 10 million, the city is intensifying efforts to attract talent, particularly fresh graduates.

Policies aim to bring in over 400,000 new graduates to support the transition and growth of its manufacturing and service sectors. With initiatives like establishing enterprise postdoctoral research stations, Ningbo is fostering innovation in key industries while integrating talent with its innovation ecosystem.
