Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province is the least congested among cities nationwide with a gross domestic product (GDP) exceeding 1 trillion yuan ($153.85 billion), according to a recently released report on China's major cities' transportation in the first quarter of this year.

The report compiled by Baidu Maps evaluated the general transportation conditions of 100 major cities in China in terms of congestion level during rush hours and weekends and average commuting time.

The average commuting time in Ningbo stood at 31.1 minutes in Q1, ranking 87th among the 100 cities measured, while the commuting time in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu all surpassed 40 minutes.

In addition, the city ranked 71st in terms of congestion level during weekday rush hours, while the other 22 cities in the "1 trillion" club were ranked among the top 50.

Among cities with 2 to 3 million registered cars, Ningbo is the fourth least congested following Wenzhou, Weifang, and Jinhua. The travel speed for the city during rush hours stood at 37.68km/h, only behind Baoding, according to the report.

A report jointly released by Gaode Maps and other research organs ranked Ningbo first in the nation in term of bus operations in 2020.

Currently, Ningbo's subway lines in service spanned 155 kilometers in total length. The opening of its subway line 5, which is still under construction, will further enhance the commuting experience in the city.
