Cicheng Ancient Town

With its long history, and for its beautiful scenery, city walls and abundant cultural relics, Cicheng is known far and wide as the "Most Charming Ancient Town in the South Yangtze River." 

Geographically, the town is surrounded by mountains on three sides, facing the Yaojiang River and the Cijiang River. To the south is Chenshandu Town at Siming Mountain. 

This ancient town has given birth to many celebrities. During the 1,000 years between the Tang and Qing dynasties, Cicheng had 519 jinshi (successful candidates for the highest imperial examinations), and over 1,000 government officials. 

In modern times, many artists, writers, bankers, entrepreneurs, professors, and scientists have all come from Cicheng. Tan Jiazhen, a world-renowned geneticist, and Feng Jicai, a famous writer, are all Cixi locals.
