The groundbreaking ceremony for the Damco Meishan International Logistics Center took place in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 13.

The center, covering an area of 150 hectares, is a joint venture between Damco, one of the world's leading providers of freight forwarding and supply chain management services, and Meishan Bonded Area of Ningbo.

It will be engaged in a variety of businesses such as import and export logistics, global transfer, cross-border e-commerce and international trade.

A total of $28 million will be invested in the project. Several new facilities, including a 50,000-square-meter modern warehouse with high shelves, are expected to be constructed at the center.

Since the establishment of the bonded area, Damco has been keeping a close eye on the development of Meishan, an attractive area for the center to be located thanks to its convenient location, favorable business policies of the local government and abundant land resources. The international development of Meishan is in line with the needs of Damco, according to Martin Holme, Asia CEO of Damco.

The project is a result of constant negotiations between Meishan and Damco over the past decade, said Chai Lineng, director of the administration committee of Meishan International Logistics Industry Agglomeration Zone. He said that he looks forward to a high-level international logistics center that will benefit the development of an international supply chain in Meishan.

So far, numerous leading projects relating to development of an international supply chain have been stationed in Meishan Bonded Area and an industrial base with six leading industries such as international trade and logistics have been formed here.
