Hu Weizhong, a resident of Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, is currently busy making noodles for seniors in celebration of the upcoming Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival, a day to honor the elderly, which falls on Oct 14 this year.
The 53-year-old Hu has been living in Heshun Community in Yinzhou district since 2018, where many of residents are seniors living alone, so he decided to do something nice for them. Hu has been sending noodles as gifts for lonely elderly people in the community on the Chongyang Festival every year since.
"Do you prefer salty or sweet?" Hu always asks seniors he meets in the community. He then provides different noodles for them according to their tastes and preferences. "Sugar is free in noodles for diabetics, and soft noodles are offered to those who have intestinal disorders.”
"He is a considerate man," said Jin Gaoming, an 89-year-old man living alone in the community. He regards Hu as his friend. "I will eat up this bowl of noodles."
Hu is also an active participant in volunteer activities in the community. During the pandemic, he spent two months helping seniors buy daily necessities.
