Zhejiang pockets 142 gold at National Games for Persons with Disabilities
Zhejiang won 142 gold, 83 silver and 57.5 bronze medals at the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 8th National Special Olympic Games, which came to an end on Oct 29 in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The delegation broke eight world records and set 22 national new records during the Games and was ranked second nationwide in both the gold medal and total medal tallies.
Zhejiang sent a delegation of 317 athletes who competed in 20 events including athletics, swimming, cycling, badminton, table tennis and rowing. The delegation was dominant in water sports events, pocketing 63 gold, 40 silver and 25 bronze medals in swimming, rowing and kayaking.
Paralympic swimmer Jiang Yuxian from Shaoxing claimed nine gold medals at the event.
Zhejiang's blind men's gateball team, blind women's gateball team, deaf women's basketball team and men's sitting volleyball team all retained their titles at the games.
In addition, 40 athletes from the province attended the National Special Olympic Games and took home 14 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze medals.
