The Fenghua Museum was recently shortlisted as a national 4A scenic spot, the second highest rating in the nation's grading system for scenic spots, local media reported.
Located in Ningbo's Fenghua district, the museum, which was transformed from an old thermal power plant, has a collection comprising 60,000 cultural treasures, including national first-class cultural relics such as a celadon pot made in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and a wooden boat drum carved in the Minguo period (1912-49).
A special exhibition zone has also been set up in the museum to introduce Chiang Kai-shek and his son Chiang Ching-kuo.
In addition, some local intangible heritages like Fenghua dragon dancing, the legend of Budai Monk and Hongbang tailoring techniques are on display in the museum.
The Budai Monk was a renowned monk born in Changting village, Fenghua district in the late Tang Dynasty (618-907). Budai, which means "cloth bag" in Chinese, was the monk's nickname. He was considered to be an incarnation of Maitreya, the future Buddha, as he was always seen with a big bag full of goodies that he would give to children and those in need.
Originating on the banks of the Fenghua River in Ningbo, Hongbang tailoring combines local tailoring traditions and Western draping technology. Knowledge of the craft was spread to more than 30 cities at home and abroad through traveling artisans.
Ningbo is currently home to two national 5A scenic spots and 34 national 4A scenic spots.
