Over 200 teams from 50-plus universities around the world attended an international bamboo architecture design contest held in Ninghai county, Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province on May 13.
The competition jury comprised experts including Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians Cui Kai and Liu Jiaping. Twelve of the 24 finalists were declared winners.
The teams from the South China Agricultural University and the Nanjing University of Technology won the first prize, while the second and third prizes went to teams from 10 other universities, including the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture and Southeast University.
Ninghai was selected as the event's host venue primarily due to its rich bamboo resources and expertise in bamboo processing, according to Xiao Yan, head of the Zhejiang University (Ninghai) Biomass material and Carbon Neutrality Research Center, which launched the contest last December.
Some of the winning works will be applied in village renovation projects in the county.
