Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province experienced a boom in cross-border e-commerce sales during the "618" online shopping festival.

Cross-border e-commerce enterprises from the city received 10.82 million orders worth about 2.79 billion yuan ($429.23 million) from domestic consumers from 8:00 pm on May 31 to 12:00 pm on June 20, according to official statistics.

Specifically, cosmetics, health food as well as maternal and child products were the top three commodities in terms of sales volume, with their combined sales values accounting for 80 percent of the city's total.

These results can be partly attributed to the improved custom clearance efficiency for cross-border e-commerce imports goods during the shopping spree. Local customs authorities had worked overtime to ensure the timely delivery of packages from the city to other places in the nation.

In addition, a special zone for returns has been set up for cross-border e-commerce companies, leading to a reduction in warehousing and transportation costs for them.
