Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province had handled 20.05 million TEUs this year as of 6:00 pm July 24, 22 days earlier than the previous year when the port hit the 20-million-TEU milestone.

As the world's largest port by cargo throughput volume, the port's container business has been growing steadily despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has opened more than 300 container routes. This year, 182 vessels with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs or more have berthed at the port.

The port's operator has been continuously expanding its business domestically by leveraging the sea-rail combined transport mode, which refers to the mechanism where goods are first loaded onto trains to Ningbo before being transported overseas by sea, and vice versa. As of July 24, 854,000 containers had been transported via this mode at the port, up 31.7 percent year-on-year.

Ningbo and Zhoushan, both of which are home to the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, were again ranked 10th among global shipping hubs in terms of comprehensive strength, according to the Xinhua-Baltic ISCD Index 2022 released earlier this month.
