The seventh Ningbo Short Film Festival began accepting submissions on Sept 7.

That same day, a 10-day exhibition showcasing 42 excellent works from the festival's last six editions opened in the Nantang Old Street in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.

According to the organizers, entries - either micro films or short videos - should be submitted before Oct 31.

The duration for micro films and short videos are capped at 30 minutes and 8 minutes respectively.

Micro film entries are not limited to specific themes, but short videos should be about Ningbo's achievements in common prosperity and its reputation as a coastal metropolis.

Nineteen awards are up for grabs, including the Golden Snail Award for Best Short Film. The total prize money for the competition this year is 200,000 yuan ($30,769.2).

This year, the festival will for the first time set up an award for works created by students from universities in Ningbo and Ningbo natives studying in universities outside the city. All award winners will be announced at the festival in December.

Indonesia is set to attend the event as the guest of honor of the festival.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, which is the event's co-sponsor this year, plans to partner the festival to set up an international short film research center.

The international profile of the festival has been growing over the years. In 2020, the festival became a member of the Short Film Conference (SFC).
