The sustained efforts made by Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province to improve its environment over the past decade are paying dividends.

The percentage of days with good air quality in the city's central urban area in 2021 stood at 95.9 percent, according to the Ningbo municipal bureau of ecology and environment.

More than 87 percent of the surface water collected from monitoring stations across Ningbo met national standards.

The quality of water at all centralized drinking water sources at county level or above now meet the related standards.

Ningbo has also been honored as a provincial demonstration zone for ecological civilization.

These good results are mainly due to concerted efforts to eliminate pollution, promote the usage of clean energies and facilitate industrial green transformation.

In 2020, the energy consumption and water consumption per unit of GDP in Ningbo decreased by 17 percent and 35 percent when compared with 2015.

The city's installed photovoltaic capacity now stands at 4.37 million kW, the highest in Zhejiang. Ningbo also tops the province in terms of hazardous waste disposal capacity.

In addition, Ningbo has made strides in the low-carbon transformation of its port, airport and logistics facilities.

Container throughput processes at Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port by cargo throughput volume, can now be handled in a "paperless" manner that reduces logistics costs by 150 million yuan ($23.08 million) and carbon dioxide emissions by 44,000 metric tons every year.
