The major achievements of Ningbo in 2022 and plans for the city's development in 2023 were laid out in the annual work report delivered by Provincial Governor Wang Hao at the opening ceremony of the first session of the 14th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, which commenced on Jan 12 in Zhejiang's capital Hangzhou.

Ningbo's flourishing port economy was singled out in the report, which stated that Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled 1.25 billion metric tons of cargo in 2022, the highest worldwide, while its container throughput, which stood at 33.35 million TEUs, was the third highest in the world.

The fact that the city's magnetic material and green petrochemical industries were listed among national advanced manufacturing clusters last year was also highlighted in the report.

In addition, the report illustrated Ningbo's improved innovation capability, which was evidenced by Ningbo Graphene Innovation Center becoming the first national manufacturing innovation center in the province.

Among the provincial plans for 2023 mentioned in the report, many were related to fields such as transportation, opening-up, innovation, modern maritime industry development and integrated development with other cities.

The cargo and container throughput volumes of Ningbo Zhoushan Port are targeted to reach 1.26 billion tons and 33.6 TEUs respectively, the report stated.
