Zhejiang’s automobile industry becomes fifth largest in province

Zhejiang's auto industry had in 2022 generated an output of 1,593,700 vehicles, up 16.9 percent year-on-year.

The total industrial output value of the province's automobile industry above designated size also exceeded 700 billion yuan ($102.7 billion) for the first time, making the auto sector the fifth largest in the province.

Last year, Zhejiang's production and sales of new energy vehicles were 592,600 and 559,300, up 186.2 percent and 172.6 percent year-on-year respectively.

Geely Holding Group was among the most prolific producers, having manufactured 271,000 new energy vehicles in Zhejiang last year.

The production and sales of new energy vehicles in Zhejiang in 2022 accounted for 8.4 percent and 8.1 percent of the national total respectively, 2.6 and 2.3 percentage points higher than in 2021.

Last year, Zhejiang exported 78,000 new energy vehicles, an increase of 200.9 percent year-on-year, 80 percentage points higher than the national growth rate over the same period.
