Ningbo art troupe wows South Korean audiences

The Ningbo art troupe joined a parade for the Powerful Daegu Festival held in Daegu, South Korea from May 13 to 14.

The troupe captivated locals and wowed them with performances featuring the erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument, and Bian Lian, or face-changing, where performers change masks in quick succession with a wave of the hand or by turning around.

A day later, the delegation went to Suncheon, the second stop of their South Korean tour, to participate in the Suncheonman International Garden Expo 2023, during which they staged several folk-art shows such as Yueju Opera and a tea-making ceremony.

The troupe's three-day tour was covered by more than 140 South Korean media outlets, with published posts garnering 6.5 million views in total, official statistics show.

"I believe the event will contribute greatly to exchanges between Suncheon and Ningbo and further strengthen our friendly relations in ongoing cooperation projects in the future," said mayor of Suncheon in a letter of thanks sent to the Ningbo art troupe on May 19.
