In celebration of China's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on June 10 this year, Xiangshan county in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, launched an event featuring intangible cultural heritage on June 9.

Perching along the coastline, Xiangshan has cultivated rich and unique cultural heritage items such as fish lanterns and fish printing techniques. In recent years, artisans in the county have been pursuing the innovative development of traditional arts.

To encourage the innovation and promotion of traditional culture and celebrate Cultural and National Heritage Day, a cultural event kicked off in Xiangshan on June 9 and is slated to run until June 11.

The event includes three competitions focusing on different aspects of intangible cultural heritage – artworks, performances, and food.

A food market offering local delicacies, such as various pastries, rice candy, and maci (a glutinous rice delicacy), and a fete featuring traditional art and games are also underway in Xiangshan, giving visitors a close look at the intangible cultural heritage items.

In addition, a picture exhibition entitled "the Most Beautiful Volunteers" was launched as part of the event, displaying the efforts that volunteers in Xiangshan have made to protect and promote intangible cultural heritage items over the past eight years.
