Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province proved its prowess in the Chinese garment industry, as 10 companies from the city secured positions in the 2022 list of China's top 100 clothing enterprises in terms of operating revenue. The list, unveiled by the China National Garment Association on July 31, highlighted the city's dominance in the sector.
Impressively, nine out of the 10 Ningbo companies featured in the top 50, with three industry giants, Youngor Group Co Ltd, Shanshan Corporation, and Peacebird Group Co Ltd, earning spots within the top 10. Youngor, which claimed the top position on the list, showcased its outstanding performance in the previous year.
The 10 listed companies from Ningbo also clinched spots in the top 100 in terms of total profits generated in 2022, further solidifying the city's leading position in the garment industry. Youngor, Shanshan, and Romon stood out by securing top 10 positions, with Youngor coming in second.
However, the first half of the year presented challenges for Ningbo's clothing industry. Official data revealed a 12.6 percent decrease in the industrial output value of above-designated-size textile and clothing enterprises compared to the same period last year, which has been attributed to the decline in external demand and intensified domestic market competition.
"In the face of these challenges, Ningbo's clothing industry has displayed remarkable resilience and optimism," said Mao Yihua, secretary-general of the Ningbo Garment Association. "Brands have responded by developing new products and enhancing customer interactions in flagship stores. With the upcoming autumn and winter seasons, the industry remains hopeful for a turnaround."
