Ningbo villagers promote rural vitalization experience in Liangshan

Villagers from Ningbo, Zhejiang province shared their rural vitalization stories in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture in Sichuan province on Oct 24 as part of Ningbo's efforts to help the less-developed villages in Liangshan.

Ninghai county in Ningbo has figured out an effective way to develop villages: promoting rural vitalization through art.

The campaign was launched in Gejia village four years ago when a team led by Cong Zhiqiang, an associate art professor at Renmin University of China, who helped renovate the village and encouraged villagers to make use of their artistic skills for a living. As a result, the village has become popular place to visit.

Ge Wanyong, Party secretary of Gejia village, shared the stories among villagers of Puge county in Liangshan on Oct 24.

Ge summed up three development methods: a one-to-one working system should be built, which refers a Party member serving a household; every villager is encouraged to join in the development of the village; invite professionals such as college students, artists, and entrepreneurs to the village.

Ying Liuyi from Ninghai's Xiayu village also shared how the village changed from an underdeveloped village to a place buzzing with visitors. 

Mari Cila is a manager of an oil-seed camellia garden in Puge, one of the cooperation projects between Ninghai and Puge. He said that the garden offers over 5,000 temporary jobs every year and that more people have joined the rural vitalization effort and benefited from it as well.
