Ningbo Zhoushan Port has launched a new shipping route to Mexico, marked by the arrival of a vessel operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC) at its Chuanshan port area on May 28.
The newly launched route is set to operate a fleet of seven vessels, each capable of transporting 7,000 standard containers, following a weekly operating schedule. These ships, departing from Ningbo Zhoushan Port, will make stops at key ports including Shanghai, Busan, Mexico, and Qingdao.
A wide variety of goods, ranging from electrical and mechanical products to everyday essentials, apparel, and footwear sourced from Ningbo and its neighboring regions, will traverse the route, significantly reducing delivery times for Mexican customers. Projections indicate that the new route will increase the throughput at Ningbo Zhoushan Port by an estimated 5,000 containers per week.
In the first four months of this year, Ningbo Customs oversaw a total of 8,036 international ship voyages entering and exiting the port. With the introduction of the new route, the total number of container routes at Ningbo Zhoushan Port has surpassed 300, with over 250 being international routes and more than 130 connecting countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Zhu Yidong, operations manager at Ningbo Beilun Third Container Terminal Co Ltd, emphasized the crucial role played by the efficient and punctual services provided by Ningbo Customs, noting that these services not only enhance cargo transportation efficiency but also expedite deliveries to customers, serving as a key driver encouraging more shipping companies to explore new routes at Ningbo Zhoushan Port.
