Wang Tong, a farmer in Hengjie town, Haishu district, Ningbo, has recently been busy harvesting green sugarcane.

In 2010, Wang, along with his parents, moved from Taizhou to Hengjie town and leased a 10-mu (0.67 hectares) field to grow sugarcane after learning it was popular among locals.

Wang's green sugarcane entered the market in late September, one or two months earlier than other areas in the country.

The fruit is primarily sold to customers on site immediately after leaving the field, according to Wang.

"There was no typhoon this year, so the sugarcane grew straight and tastes particularly crisp and sweet," Wang said, revealing that this year's yields are higher than in previous years, standing at 3,000 to 3,500 sugarcanes per mu.

One sugarcane is currently priced at about 10 yuan ($1.45), he said.
