The more than 1,000-year-old Zoumatang village in Ningbo's Yinzhou district was home to 76 jinshi (successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations) in ancient times as well as many high-quality lotus roots. 

Timothy Charles Salisbury from Australia recently visited the ancient village, where he collected lotus roots with locals and learned to make Jinshi lotus root soup, a traditional delicacy in Zoumatang.
