As the Chinese New Year approaches, Jinxi Village in Ningbo, Zhejiang province is abuzz with the age-old tradition of crafting rice cakes.

With no refrigeration, villagers had to make cakes that could be stored for an extended period before the New Year. A simple steaming was all that was needed to restore their soft and chewy texture. This tradition persists to this day, fostering community as people create these delightful treats together.
