Ningbo strengthens talent connections with alumni event

Ningbo in Zhejiang province hosted a global alumni gathering on Sept 7, reflecting the city's strong commitment to talent engagement and community building.

The event, held at the Zhejiang Innovation Center as part of the 20th Ningbo Talent, Science and Technology Week, drew more than 700 alumni from over 60 leading universities worldwide, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, London University College, and the National University of Singapore. It served as a platform to connect returning graduates with the city, offering a blend of interactive experiences and professional support, with a focus on social engagement and career development.

Attendees participated in hands-on workshops like printmaking activities, while interactive games such as tabletop curling and frisbee challenges filled the venue with laughter.

"The moment I entered, it felt like walking back onto campus — there was an immediate sense of warmth and belonging," said Lu Zhengrong, a graduate from Xiamen University.

Alongside social activities, municipal and district authorities provided practical services, including housing guidance, career planning, entrepreneurship resources, policy briefings, and health check-ups.

A Wuhan University graduate attending said, "From every small detail to the broader talent support, Ningbo makes you feel like you truly belong," underscoring the city's focus on nurturing talent retention and engagement.

The Zhejiang Innovation Center acts as the hub for the city's Alumni Bridge initiative, linking returning graduates with resources throughout the city. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 90 youth-focused talent activities have been organized, benefiting over 12,000 professionals and alumni.
