Yemeni student becomes community volunteer in Ningbo

For Yemeni student Ye Jingming, a small certificate marks a big change.

The Ningbo University student was recently recognized as an outstanding volunteer in Wenzhu community, Ningbo's Jiangbei district, marking his journey from newcomer to active neighborhood member.

Located near several universities, Wenzhu community is home to more than 1,400 international students and teachers from nearly 100 countries, making it a "mini United Nations". To help international residents overcome language and cultural barriers, the community launched the "Wenzhu Partners" international volunteer program in 2025, encouraging residents to take part in community services and local governance.

The program has since organized 23 activities, attracting more than 50 young volunteers from 16 countries. Through a "mini UN" council, international residents have also contributed ideas on community affairs, with several proposals already put into practice.

Ye has taken part in community discussions, volunteer activities, and new-media initiatives, saying, "I used to be a student here just for my studies. Now, I feel I'm part of the community and want to contribute to my neighbors."

From language corners and bilingual classes to martial arts, cultural exchanges, and neighborhood events, Wenzhu is bringing Chinese and international residents closer, turning neighbors into a true community.
