A summer camp for overseas Chinese teenagers to seek their cultural roots in China was recently held in Ningbo, in Zhejiang province.

A total of 120 Chinese teenagers -- living in Australia, Denmark, the United States, Spain, Italy, and other countries -- learned calligraphy, shadow boxing, traditional Chinese painting, martial arts and paper-cutting during the 10-day event.

They also visited several places of historical interest in Ningbo, such as the Tianyige Museum, Baoguo Temple and Qiantong Ancient Town.

"These teenagers are mostly second or third generation Chinese immigrants who have lived many years overseas and know little about their home country. So we hope to gather them together through the summer camp and promote Chinese culture among them," said Li Chengshu, chairman of the overseas Chinese federation of Ningbo, an organizer of the activity.

Gao Yaoting, a second generation Chinese immigrant to Denmark, said the Chinese association in Denmark organizes such summer camps every year for them to learn more about their motherland.

Hu Peikang, a teacher at a Chinese school in Australia, said it was the first time for them to come to Ningbo and was sure the famous city of cultural and historical interest would teach the teens a lot about Chinese culture.
