Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province unveiled an ambitious plan to construct the Yongjiang Science and Innovation Grand Corridor in the city on Nov 26, with hopes that it will wield global influence.
Plans to build the new corridor were released by the Ningbo Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, which included spatial planning and positions from 2019 to 2035.
The corridor will cover a total area of 136 square kilometers and extend to Zhenhai Avenue in the north, Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Expressway in the south, Ningbo South Higher Education Park in the west, and the Beilun section of the No 320 provincial-level highway in the east.
Official data shows that the corridor currently houses 40 percent of the technological innovation resources in the city's central area.
The city aims to construct the area into a global innovation hub for new materials, a national center for industrial internet and smart manufacturing as well as a model in creating a strong innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The corridor will strive to make breakthroughs in key technologies and products in sectors such as new materials, digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, life and health, and creative design and foster a group of internationally competitive and innovative talent.
