A total of 95,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were shipped via a sea-rail combined transport model at the Ningbo Zhoushan Port in January, a yearly uptick of 34 percent.

The sea-rail combined transport model refers to the mechanism where goods are first loaded onto trains to Ningbo before being transported overseas by sea, and vice versa.

The model has helped the port to expand its business presence to inland areas in China.

Last year, more than 1 million containers were handled via the sea-rail combined model at the port, a record high.

To date, the port has launched 19 freight train routes to 56 cities in 15 provinces and municipalities across the nation.
