The fifth edition of the Ningbo Contemporary Art Exhibition began in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 3, local media reported.

Nearly 200 artworks, including pottery, wood carving and oil paintings, made by more than 50 artists were showcased.

This year's exhibition, which is the largest in its history, attracted not only local artists but also those from cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing.

Yang Jin, chairman of the Ningbo Federation of Literary and Art Circles, said that it has been 11 years since the first Ningbo Contemporary Art Exhibition was held.

The exhibits embody the wisdom of the artists, who present to audiences what they ignore in daily life in the form of art, he added.

As one of the exhibition's executive curators, Chen Feng, president of the Ningbo Contemporary Art Association, said that the event consists of three sections, which are held in three different venues - Ningbo Art Museum, Ninghai Jiujiu Art Museum and Ningbo Nade Art Museum.

Organized by the Ningbo Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Ningbo Art Museum, the exhibition will run till Aug 24 and is open to the public for free.
