Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group Co Ltd, the operator of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port by cargo throughput, won the China Quality Award (CQA) at the fourth China Quality Conference held in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Sept 16.
The award winners comprised nine organizations and one individual.
This is the first time a company or individual from Zhejiang has won the award since its establishment in 2012. It is also the first time a port operator from the country has won the award.
The CQA, which is conferred by the State Administration for Market Regulation every two years, is the highest honor in the field of quality management in China.
Since 2012, a total of 29 organizations and four individuals, including some well-known projects like the Tiangong I space lab and the Shenzhou IX manned spacecraft, have been awarded the CQA.
Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled more than 1.17 billion metric tons of cargo in 2020, up more than 4 percent year-on-year and topping the global rankings for the 12th straight year. The port's container throughput reached 28.72 million TEUs last year, up over 4 percent year-on-year and ranking third globally.
The port is also ranked high in the world in terms of operating efficiency. Its achievements include a world record 235.6 TEUs handled by a single container gantry crane in an hour.
