Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province is leading China in terms of urban network quality, according to a report jointly released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology on Sept 28.

With a score of 107.12 points, Ningbo took first place in the network quality ranking for the nation's 36 major cities including provincial capitals and municipalities with independent planning status.

It was followed by Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Hefei, Nanjing and Tianjin.

The ranking was based on spot checks on the 4G/5G network quality in key venues and industries in these cities. Ningbo achieved the highest scores in aspects like 4G network quality in key venues and 5G network quality on major roads.

As of the end of 2020, broadband access speeds in the city's urban and rural areas had reached 1,000 Mbps and 500 Mbps, according to official data.

Ningbo had constructed more than 13,000 5G base stations by the end of September, with signals covering all its key commercial blocks. The registered users of 5G mobile phone users in the city had surpassed 3.6 million.

The application of 5G networks in sectors like manufacturing and port operations has produced fruitful results as well.
