Longguan township in Ningbo's Haishu district was invited to attend the NGO parallel forum of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province on Oct 11.

It is the only town from East China's Zhejiang province that has been invited to attend the forum.

Sitting at the foot of Siming Mountain, the town has rich biological resources and a forest coverage rate of 86 percent. It is home to some species under State protection, including Isoetes sinensis and hooded crane.

Longguan is also a scenic attraction which welcomes more than 1 million visitors annually.

In May, the Haishu government started the construction on a biodiversity experience base in the township, the largest of its kind in Zhejiang.

Longguan has also reached a cooperative agreement with the Zhejiang provincial department of ecology and environment to carry out a series of exchanges related to biodiversity conservation. 

A biodiversity survey on Siming Mountain has been launched by the township and is currently in full swing.
