Xu Miaoxin, a volunteer teacher from Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, recently prepared new year gifts for students at a primary school in Sichuan's Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture on Dec 30.

Each gift pack includes a photo taken by Xu for each student and a postcard of Beijing.

Xu got up early in the morning to put the gifts on students' desks. Students were all surprised and excited about the warm-hearted gifts when they arrived at the classroom.

"I am a fan of photography. I have been keeping track of these students since I arrived at the school," said Xu. "They used to be shy in front the camera but now they all like it."

As Xu found that many students didn't have any photos of themselves, he decided to take photos of them as new year gifts.

"Beijing is the most popular place to go among these students. That's why I printed photos I took in Beijing on these postcards," Xu added.

Xu also made a calendar on which students' photos are printed. "Each photo has a story. I want to tell them that every day counts," he said.
